Who we are and what we do.
Definition
The Synod Pastoral committee (SPC) works with the Area Pastoral Committees to oversee the life of the congregations within the Synod
Role
Generally to:
work closely with the Ministries Committee sharing ideas about training and the variety of non-ordained ministry within the Synod
have a role on the Steering Groups for Special Category Ministers and Management Groups for Church Related Community Work Ministers
examine grant applications for building works and for mission purposes and commends them to the Synod Resources Committee. The committee takes an active interest in the development of such projects
work with churches where there are difficulties to help to try resolve them
Specifically to:
be there when the life of a church has run its course in a particular place and will, alongside the Area Pastoral Committee, assist with the processes required for closure
review the procedures and practices of the Area Pastoral Committees
provide mutual support for the Conveners of the Pastoral Committees
consult on the deployment of ministers across the Synod
oversee the programme of ministerial accompanied self appraisal

It is envisaged that where a specific area of expertise is required, an individual with such expertise would be invited to join the Committee for the appropriate period.
Meetings
The Committee currently meets once every month, and would expect to meet not least than every two months
