Holy Communion, Baptism, Weddings & Funerals
After your training, you will need a hands-on tutorial before authorisation. This will usually be led by your Area Lay Worship Advocate (or designated officer), who will walk you through the actions of the Communion and/or Baptism service. Following this tutorial, you will enter a one-year phase of mentoring. As part of that season of mentoring, we ask that (1) you arrange a time for a minister or authorised elder to observe one of your services and then (2) to reflect with them on the experience both for your affirmation and continued vocational formation. Beyond this, we hope that during this mentoring phase, you will seek out and receive ongoing support from church leaders or experienced members. This mentoring phase is designed to help you grow in confidence and become comfortable with the responsibilities involved. Regular check-ins or feedback sessions may also be offered as needed to answer questions and support your development in the role. Synod will send you a notice that you're due to be reauthorised through a "refresher" session on the sacraments, which should take place every three years.

‘Plug & Play’ Communion Training
We are pleased to offer a “plug and play” Communion Refresher. You must have completed at least three communion refreshers before being eligible for this resource. How do we hope you will use this resource? We hope that it will be . . .
Enriching . . . the idea isn’t to “explain” communion but rather to tease our minds into active thought with the bite-size portions of theology and pastoral wisdom relative to the sacraments;
Engaging . . . the idea isn’t so much to “take notes” as it is to engage in a conversation wherever possible.
Convenient . . . you don’t need to “show up” but request the Communion Refresher from Kerry Later (office@nwsynod.org.uk) and it will be forwarded to you to download.
Once you’ve watched the video, you will see a link (which will be included in the email from Kerry) to a SurveyMonkey. There will be one question there for you to answer and then press “submit” — and once that’s completed, please let me know at learningmentor@nwsynod.org.uk. Once complete, I’ll ask Kerry to add you as “officially” refreshed for communion.
