Nominations Committee
Who we are and what we do.
Definition
The Committee nominates to Synod Meeting people to serve as convenors of Synod Committees. It also suggests names for members of Synod committees, and for representatives to our ecumenical partners, not part of the United Reformed Church.
History
North Western Synod has not had a Nominations Committee for some years. The Extraordinary Synod Meeting on the 18th January 2022 agreed that a nominations group was an important and beneficial way of trying to engage the widest possible range of people in the work of the Synod’s committees.
Role
Generally to:
Identify suitable candidates for nomination to specific committees, groups or roles
Specifically to:
Receive requests from committees or groups for individual members or convenors
Identify individuals from within Synod who meet the skills and other criteria set out by the committee or group
Make nominations to the committees or groups based upon their assessment of suitability of the potential nominee
Membership
Membership is for an initial term of 3 years, from Spring Synod 2022 expiring in Spring 2025.
The following core members of the Committee are:
Convenor: Hilary Grierson
Lancashire Area Representative
Cumbria Area Representative
Central Area Representative
South Area Representative
It is envisaged that where a specific area of expertise is required, an individual with such expertise could be invited to join the Committee for the appropriate discussion .
Meetings
The Committee expects to meet approximately three times a year; once before each Synod Meeting, and once during the summer. However, the frequency of the meetings can be varied according to need.
