G2 Removal of fixtures and fittings from Listed Buildings

It has become apparent that once a decision has been taken to close a Listed Building (and the appropriate approvals have been received from the various councils of the Church) that various fixtures and fittings have been removed from the premises without the relevant Listed Buildings Procedure being followed.  Examples include:  war memorials and memorials to specific individuals or ones that list a number of ministers who have served the church for many years.  Such fixtures and fittings must NOT be removed from the premises until the corrected listed building procedures have been followed which includes notification to the appropriate Consultative Bodies.  It is important to delay the sale process until the Consultative Bodies have responded to the Secretary of the LBAC with any observations and comments and the Synod Resources Committee have endorsed the proposal.

It is also important that the elders’ meeting ensures a photographic record is made of the fixtures and fittings in their original and new positions along with a written record of the movement for historical purposes.  The record should include any wording on plaques and labels which cannot be easily read on the photographs.
